Toby Champion will talk about going beyond GIS layers to build a spatiotemporal knowledge graph of Bainbridge Island. Let’s Map Bainbridge is a volunteer-led project to help people understand Bainbridge as it is now, and how it came to be that way. A road end today was once a steamboat landing, connecting it to vessels, routes, communities and people from the island’s past. Behind LMB is CityGraph, a platform Toby is building to integrate data from OpenStreetMap, OpenHistoricalMap, local government GIS, museum collections, historical records and local research into a single geographic knowledge graph. As a Semantic Web project, everything in LMB gets a unique URL in a common identity space, with authority control, provenance and a shared controlled vocabulary drawing on sources including Getty AAT and Wikidata. Technically, it’s PostGIS, QGIS, RDF, GeoSPARQL and the CIDOC CRM and CRMgeo , with Claude Code using MCP to work across the codebase, query the knowledge graph and our Obsidian vault, and directly control QGIS.
